I travelled with 11 other ladies from Bee Creek United Methodist Church in November 0f 2011 on a mission trip to help out at the orphanage.

I returned from Guatemala not too long ago. What a beautiful experience. God's work was everywhere.

The first evening before bed, hugs went around like beautiful treasures at a Thanksgiving table. The first photo will show you the faces behind the hugs. Those hugs filled me up and I slept that evening like I have not done in years.

The hugs continued on all week...

When getting up in the morning and walking out to get some breakfast, "little" Good Morning voices came from different places along the way filling my heart with sweetness. What a beautiful walk to breakfast.

On the last day, before going to breakfast, while taking the trash down to the trash receptacle, a little hand took the trash from my hand and we walked together hand in hand to get the job done. Instead of holding on to the trash, I was able to hold the hand of a sweet little boy. That filled my soul. Those same hands had held mine the night before at church services.

Orphan: one who has had some protection or advantage taken away

We are all orphans in one way or another either partially or completely for many different reasons. It does not feel so good does it? There is a yearning to fill painful voids when they occur.

Imagine being orphaned by both parents as a child.

I will be leaving November 7 on a trip to LaSenda orphanage in Guatemala with a group from Bee Creek United Methodist Church. The orphans at LaSenda have had the disadvantage of both parents being taken away at an early age for various reasons. They are now in the protective arms of God and LaSenda orphanage, a Christian based establishment headed up by Steve and Pam English. www.twop.org Please click and take a look around.

I will be helping with everything I can! Photography, cooking, cleaning, painting, and playing with the children to name a few. I am so fortunate to be able to do this and gather more memories for my own personal hard drive... images only your mind can capture. I will also have images to share with the help of a camera.

I only have one week to help at LaSenda. Only one week of my time and energy. It is too short. I know because I also traveled to Northern Vietnam on a medical mission in 2008 with www.gsmedicalministry.org I wanted to do more after ~3 weeks and still do.

The mission with Good Samaritan Medical Mission changed my life and gave me a richness that cannot be obtained any other way. Giving is the richness. For the segment of time you give you get back exponentially. It is a "sense"about you only obtained by the experience... you can't measure it like counting a pile of money. No amount of money can buy that richness.

I hope to become one of the richest woman in the world.

I am attaching some photos or my riches captured on film. I can't attach them all because there is not enough room in cyberspace! There are many more in mind but those you will never see but you might get a "sense" from me...

Life is a Threshold

I truly believe there is a threshold to everything.

The definition of threshold:

(1) : end, boundary; specifically : the end of a runway (2) :the place or point of entering or beginning

Everything Has a Threshold

Literally, we experience it every time we walk through doorways or jump out of airplanes* and figuratively, when we try something new. At first it is very exciting. Awhile into it, it becomes a chore. But, if you make it through the threshold, the end becomes the beginning. It is like learning a new language. Day after day you practice and then what seems like "all at once" you become fluent. I watched this occur when my son learned to read. All of a sudden his ability took off and there was no looking back.

Maybe it all ties into fear. Fear holds us back. It keeps us from going through the entrance. Instead we stay at the end of the runway. Like walking along the shore instead of diving in and seeing all there is to see. "Leap and the net will appear."(A Zen Saying) *I don't know about a net but the parachute opened.

Fear of success maybe... If there is success, then what? Astronauts must feel like that after returning from a mission.

I take pictures of many different types of thresholds. Marriage, engagements, graduations, award ceremonies, babies and mile markers with children, launching of products, book jacket and CD covers ... Those images are a documentation of thresholds. Some are yours and some are mine.

Attached are what I believe to be very significant thresholds.

When walking on the beach in North Carolina last week I photographed a picture of these shells(1st image). The reminded me of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's. "Gift From the Sea." Beautiful inspiring book about life. She relates shells to the people in your life collected along the way. Life's treasures. Your shells.

We all have our shell collections. Mine gets bigger all the time. I am including pictures of some of my shells and other people's shells. Unfortunately, some shells only stay in our collection for a short while and others are there for a lifetime...

Natural Light!

I started a photo shoot this week using studio lighting and noticed the light coming in from the nearby window on a rainy day. I turned off all electronics and used natural light and a reflector for the attached images. I loved the results! Please take a look for yourself.

natural implies lacking artificiality and self-consciousness and having a spontaneousness suggesting the natural rather than the man-made world...

I stepped away from technology and used what was there. There is so much man made everything out there from cell phones, to computers and with computers of course there is Facebook and e-chat and Skype... Also, in reference to man made...how many of you would rather look at a landscape that was created by nature or a landscape created by man such as skylines? I choose nature....

What if we were to turn off all electronics in our world and begin to notice, once again, what is naturally there. I bet everything would become more vivid from the color of a sunset to the smell of the rain. Without the electronics there would be no compulsions to turn away from what is right there before us. Use nature as your headphones, your eyes to see beauty, and have lunch with a friend with the cell phones turned off...

As you all know I traveled to Spain to expose birdwatching possibilites in Extremadura for The Tourist Office of Spain in Chicago....

All the species there were new to these American eyes! Incredible! Bonelli's Eagle, Black Stork, White Stork, Griffin Vultures, Black Vultures, Great Bustards....only to name a few.

I want you all to see a bit of Spain through my eyes and with the aid of my camera. Let us start with the landscape....naturally beautiful all on its own--a sensory overload. Expectations exceeded!

I look at these photos and feel like I am still there. I hope they take you there.

Now that I have put you there....let us talk about the birdwatching adventure itself and everything in between. I will tell you about the different villages, parks visited, birds in each area complete with pictures!

With Just One Look

When I first arrived in Spain, I was met by my driver and off we went to Plasencia...a city in Extremadura~~

It is...A walled market city on the bank of the Jerte River. Plasencia has a historic quarter that is a consequence of the city's strategic location along the Silver Route, Ruta de la Plata. Since the 15th century, the noblemen of the region began to move to Plasencia, defining its current appearance. Palaces, ancestral homes and significant religious buildings make up the unique old quarter.

On route to the Hotel Alfonso in Plasencia I was pleasantly surprised that my birdwatching adventure had already begun. A beautiful white stork flew over...and then further on down the road there were storks sitting in very large nests on top of street lights, columns, and construction cranes. What a magnificant sight! Attached are two photos taken by a very talented artist, Nikolai Kraneis. To see his art go to birdsart.de. Attached are some of Nikolai's sketches!

When we arrived at the hotel and I was settled into my room, I looked out my window and was so pleased with my view. I could see exactly what the city was about with one look. Just as the description above states*. Take a look at the attached photos and see for yourself! I was also delighted to see what looked like a stork or perhaps a crane flying over the palace in one of the photos. Maybe one of my birdwatching friends on the trip can tell me for sure?

Spring is in the air...I have my own little birdshow going on here at home. The swallows are back and they are starting a family on my front porch for the third year in a row.

Rain in Spain

The beauty of Spain is that even if it rains it is beautiful!...even if it mainly stays on the plain;)

It did rain the first day of the trip quite a bit. But it was still a beautiful adventure. We visited beautiful Sierra de Gata and Camp De Gata. Sierra de Gata is a mountain range in Sistema Central, Spain. Camp De Gata is an ecologically friendly camp in the area with many activities including birdwatching for the entire family.

The first few photos are pictures along the way--beauty everywhere~~~ enjoy!

Also as part of along the way, we were fortunate to visit a beautiful walled city called

Robledillo de Gata. I searched my "experience" there to write a description and instead found this on their website. While reading, it took me back...

Robledillo is hidden at the bottom of a narrow valley, and embedded his own secret, aware - insconciente of his being, an original point to nearby villages, equally as beautiful, so silent. Gata Robledillo evokes gold or tin from the deep veins, the sound of waterfalls, the light that recreates itself in penumbra games, an air of intimate greens and, above all, the miracle of an architecture without architect overboard, in its apparent neglect, perfection. There is a viewpoint of nature, because the inside is: no distance, but consubstantiated merger. The terraces or "benches" exquisite enter the vision of the Arab tile overhang, the irregular sequence of slate walls, like playing cards cut in the dark tunnels of air flowing into the light. And the water is alive, not only in its sound, but its actual occurrence (across a footbridge over the stream, by following a sudden the meandering street that seems going to the end of the world ...)

I could not have said it better.

The remaining two photos are from Borbollon Reservoir. A beautiful body of water.

The target birds for that area were: Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, Crag Martin and Black Redstart. Birdwatching in Extremadura Spain!

I was the best saving for a rainy day I have ever had...

It is All About Lines

While in Spain and with many other European countries...there is so much texture and so many interesting lines. Some appear as a juxtaposition as with the first photo, some are simplistic and frame the subject as with the second photo... Some lead you through the doorway of a very warm inn(3rd photo) ...others might lead you down a road lined with beautiful lavender... Lines can also appear to be supportive as with the container of water. In the last photo, look carefully, the tree seems to be dividing the depth of field of two subjects doing the same thing...incredible.

Monfrague National Park and a Roman Bridge

On the third day in Spain we visited Monfrague National Park, Extremadura and were very fortunate to see many species of birds including vultures waking up in the morning(1st image), Black Storks nesting(2nd image) and many others such as Spanish Imperial, and Golden and Bonelli's Eagle.

We also visited the Bird Fair FIO The International Birdwatching Fair(see images of the town with cobblestone streets where the fair took place). It was quite the experience with so many bird enthusiasts in one area with the din of many languages from around the world. The UN of the bird world! I talked extensively with an organization that rehabilitates The Lesser Kestrel and was very impressed with what they were about. Go to: www.demaprimilla.org and leave Pepe Antolin a note. He is very passionate about the plight of the Kestrel. Thank you for that Pepe! Someday I hope to visit there!

We moved onto the town of Merida :

Established by the Romans in 25 B.C., Merida was the largest Roman city in the Iberian Peninsular. Merida retains an extensive collection of Roman ruins. See attached image of a bridge built by the Romans in Merida! Beautiful bridge...talk about infrastructure!

A Little Bit and A Lot of Everything

This is the part of a series about Spain. We walked on tour of Sierra de de los Pinos and a rural guesthouse Sierra de Mampar...so beautiful!

I loved the fact that there were small and big bits of beauty all around. It was a very windy day...red alert winds from a nearby hurricane that was stirring. We still managed to see many species of birds and beautiful landscape. I loved the opportunity to be with so many avid birdwatchers from around the world....(1st photo) Had to take it through the window of the bus but it shows you so much enthusiasm.

The pictures I have attached have bits of beauty ...an olive from one of the many, many olive trees .... a bulb flower(I found beauty in the bulb--take a look and see)... You can look at the little Bits that are all parts of the Everything in the 4th photo. You can zoom in on objects or zoom out...it is all beautiful...do it with your camera or do it with the naked eye. I do both.

Something's Come Between Us

In the photography world there is so much beauty to capture. It is right there before us. There is available light vs. manufactured as with flashes and studio equipment and of course software such as photoshop--in the digital world anything is possible. I struggled with switching from film to digital because with film the results are what they are and with digital how do we know? Leads me to wonder if technology has come between us. I have attached some images taken digitally that were taken in available light with no software help and some that had help.....how do we really know though? I know.

On another level has technology come between us as human beings? It seems everything is done by email, text messaging, facebooking, twitter, myspace....on and on. I have observed on numerous occasions where human beings gather --such as meetings or social events and they are busy texting and checking their iphones and not conversing with the people that are right before them...hmmmm. I was at a restaurant awhile back and I noticed two ladies that were meeting for dinner. As soon as they sat down they were both on their cell phones for a long time. What can't wait? ... I know a time when the land line phones did not have long enough cords to reach restaurants so it had to wait. Technology. With it all, are we really getting what is truly there? I don't know...do you?

Wouldn't it be fitting if this went completely around the world!.....

John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head...but they failed to kill her. She was cared for in John's hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan. The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing.

He is a real Star of the war, and represents what America is trying to do.

This, my friends, is worth sharing. Go for it!! You'll never see things like this in the news. Please keep this going. Nothing will happen if you don't, but the American public needs to see pictures like this and needs to realize that what we're doing over there is making a difference.. Even if it is just one little girl at a time.

"A moment of silence"

Hi all!

Started my day feeling very tired after a busy week. Then I remembered today is a very important anniversary...9-11....they did a moment of silence on the radio and then Carrie Underwood sang God Bless America. I could not only feel my goosebumps, I couldhear them too. There is no way to have a moment of complete silence after such a tragic event. I remember exactly where I stood when I heard the news.

After looking through my photo collection....I found some images that depicted life in a tired and worn out sense. Then after looking further I found some "fun and energetic" photos. We are truly blessed with each day--the anniversary of 9-11 brings that home. I try to find beauty in most instances and you can if you look and listen....

Remember to stop and dance a little, sing a little, and notice the beauty in something that seems worn out....

Home Again, Home Again

Hi all!

Photography has taken me many places around the world....5 of the continents. I caught life from so many angles...in an airplane, hiking the Incas, skydiving, walking the boardwalk in Viarreggio, a photo safari in South Africa and it has given me a wonderful pathway into the music world with promotional photography. These are all just a few of the opportunities I have had.

After going to all these places and capturing so many vantage points, I am "Home Again."

As the photographer for On Pegasus Wings and as a board member I am So fortunate. I get to participate with the horses training and handling to get them ready to be therapy horses. Thank you Debbie Lloyd for all your hard work and for including me in on such a worthwhile cause. I believe with my photography I am supposed to help others and it is happening! I get to be near horses again after 20~ish years without them in my life. I am truly "Home Again" and centered. It is therapy for me. It has made me realize just how much these incredible creatures can help people in need such as Autistic children and war veterans with the On Pegasus Wings charity. The pictures of the horses that are attached are our first two horses that are in training. Much to my delight they were trying to eat my shirt in the first 2 pics and the additional 2 I attached are their beautiful heads!

Hi all! I want to celebrate Moms !!! Sometimes life gets so hectic we can't see the forest for the trees...my week has been like that. Sometimes I think I can't see the forest because I am too busy looking at the sky~~~ or on to the next thing which leads to something else and then something else...by then there is no way I will ever see the forest... Until I opened up my email one morning and the following email appeared from my son Liam....(he is 8 yrs old) It read: Happy Mother's Day!

This is my first day on gmail.com.I've had a good day what about you?I got to ride my bike to school today it was fun!On the way home I fell off my bike because i'm a dork and someone laughed at me i'm not saprised.The kid's name is Bingum.schoThe bad part of the day was school. How was you're day send me an email!I love you so much by! Liam

After reading that, the forest appeared and became very clear! Life is such a gift and so are our Mothers and our children and our families! They are what the forest is made of:)

Attached is a picture of my son running to first base and I included two pictures I took of a historical building in Wimberley. I love windows and doors! It reminded me that life is an opportunity...we have to go through open doors and look out all the windows..the forest is right before our eyes~

The Economy

I was just thinking that maybe it is up to us to stimulate the economy! I know some of us have great capabilities in that area. One of my long time friends could probably correct the economy entirely on her own with only one trip to the mall!

So ladies!! It is up to us to get this economy charged up!! Let's help President Obama!

Seriously, I overhead a conversation at the thrift store(that is where I go shopping for purses..here in Lakeway Texas the ladies get rid of designer handbags after they are just a tiny bit used). Anyhow a discussion was taking place on letting the business cycle run it's course. Meaning no stimulus packages but tax cuts so people and the business cycle can be naturally stimulated with comsumer spending. hmmm

I do believe the economy is hurting in every area. It is a tough ride for us independent business owners. L A Scott Photography is hanging on with all it's might! I believe through these times we need to exceed expections on every level and work three times as hard at doing that! That is what I am doing!

Hi All! Guess what is playing 24 hours a day on 95.5??? Christmas music! Oh my!

I read something this week that really is quite special. It is a beautiful poem. Gene Wilder included it in his book call Kiss Me Like a Stranger. It is a memoir.

I have seen it before and came across it again in his book. After reading it I thought how pictures go with words. I went through my files and attached two pictures that I thought fit the words.

"After A While"

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company does not always mean security.

And you learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes a head with the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

After awhile you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure,that you really are strong and you really do have worth.

and you learn and you learn with every good-bye you learn.

Product Photography--Still Life vs. Live Photography

Hi all! Another week is drawing to a close. Busy week! The election is over ... now we can concentrate on something else! My topic today is Still Life photography. While in Northern Vietnam I took the attached shot at a roadside stand. I love taking photos of natural beauty. I am sure when setting up shop they did not intend for the display to be eye catching but it did catch my eye. I took several shots like this one of goods for sale all over Northern Vietnam. Product photography in a sense. Product and website photography is creative. I enjoy doing it and have done quite a bit professionally. The subjects are quite "still" which is good but live subjects give me the advantage of catching animated expression. My style in the studio with live subjects as many of my clients know...is to talk and make them feel at ease. Then I click away and capture personality. Owning a Business as a Woman....hmmmm

Hi all!

I am thinking of changing my name to Larry Ann or perhaps Larry Aron ...what do you all think? That way I would still be able to keep my domain http://www.lascottphotography.com/

For all you women and men out there....what are your opinions on this. I was told awhile back by a man who owns a business that it is tough being a woman in business. I thought....no way...we have come a long way! Time will tell and it did !!

It all started when I did an artist's booth at a festival of 10,000 people. I traveled the world alone in the last couple of years to capture the images on my website and in my files. I stood in my booth for two days straight while a numer of people came through asking where Larry Scott was or the man who took the photos. I was taken back. At first I thought it was myimagination....but not after the upteenth time....wake up Lori Ann! Maybe they did not burn enough bras in the sixties....hmmmm

As most of you know I went to Vietnam as the official photography for Good Samaritan Medical Ministry in July of 2008. It was a mission that took us to the Northern part of Vietnam giving medical aide. Hi All! The beauty of being a photographer is hardly ever getting photographed myself! It gives me a certain amount of control....maybe passive aggressive ??? who knows. Anyhow, the attached photo was taken with me included with my camera but by somebody else. I recently discovered this photo while sorting through the entire lot of Vietnam photos...~~~2000 photos. This one resonates with me. I remember as a participant on this trip how I felt on the inside at times....on the inside looking out that is...but after looking at this photo I see from the outside looking in at myself and what was going on at the moment. The little guy in the photo was about my son's age and his parents were carrying him around on their backs because there were no means to have a wheelchair. I watched them carry him with so much love. He has cerebral palsy. I inquired and found out that I could sponsor a wheelchair and I did. His parents were so happy--the mom was tearful. We worked with a translator to in order to tell them about the wheelchair and that is when this photo was taken. I remember that instance of looking up at the translator while my eyes were welling with tears. I look at this photo now, all these months later, and the same tears come. My Bucket List !

Hi all!

How many of you out there actually have a bucket list! I do! I had one way before Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson in "The Bucket List!" I started mine when I turned 40(that was just a little while ago--ya right like 7 years ago!) I include things I have already done and then add more that I want to do as I think of them! I am proud to say I have crossed off many of them.

Those include: a tattoo, started a business in photography services, sang in a recital 2 times and am about to do it again, trekked to Machu Picchu and took many photos, Trinidad/Tobago, Tuscany Italy, South Africa to Kruger National Park, took sculling lessons, took salsa lessons, went to Northern Vietnam on a medical mission www.gsmedicalministry.org , Ireland, China, South Vietnam, Belize Central America, ran a marathon in Arizona, bottom of the Grand Canyon on Mules, deep sea fishing in Mexico, and a helicopter ride inside a volcano in Hawaii.

Things I still want to do: sky dive, hot air balloon ride, play polo on horseback, sing with a band(just once), drive the entire length of route 66 in my 2005 Tunderbird, learn to fence with my son, and learn to tie flies and to fly fish. And, I want to raise a longhorn steer(hence the photo taken by me LA Scott Photography!

I think we all should have a bucket list. We only have one life to live and the bucket kicking thing is a reality! So let's take all the things that are filling up that bucket and dump them out---the bottles of beer, the couch potato arse, reality television and that gallon of ice cream! Freezing Time With Photography[

Hi all!!!

I know I have talked alot about freezing time with my photography. This week fishing on the Pedernales River outside of Johnson City I could not help myself taking pictures. There was so much beauty to capture and "freeze" digitally.

The pictures I am attaching are prime examples of things I see that I am compelled to photograph so I always have that "moment" to relive.

The first is a sunset with the silhouette of two pretty intense fishermen....
The second I call a mom shot because it is a "moment" of my son Liam fishing....so sweet...he won't be that little forever and you have to capture as much of those moments as possible....
A dog running with a stick---look at the water splashing....it is amazing what the camera catches and freezes without my intentions...
My son Liam's fish---what a catch both by him and the camera!....
A wildflower along the river...
And, light coming through a barn door....naturally beautiful---if I were to take that picture 5 minutes later it would not be the same...

Go out and enjoy every "moment" you can!

Hi all!

Back on track this week!

Actually Friday the 13th has always been a good day for me! All days are great! Each one is a blessing in so many ways! So, don't let superstition keep you from enjoying today!

It has been a busy week! Started something new this week---sculling lessons down at Lady Bird Lake:) What a blast and what a workout. It is so beautiful to glide through the water on the sculling boats. It looks easier than it is! There is so much to coordinate to make it all work. One of the biggest things is looking over your shoulder to ensure that you don't hit anything...even the swans are at risk with me out there!

I have attached seven photographs today to illustrate the difference between black and white photography versus color. Sometimes black and white adds depth and sometimes it takes it away. There are clearly pictures that look best in one or the other and some images can be both. An example is the picture with the goat. I think the black and white makes the image look more third world than the color version. The cross on the tombstone takes on a more eery appearance in black and white than the color version. The door becomes extremely flat in black and white and looks more like an illustration. You decide for yourselves.... I love working in both.

I am working on a book of black and white portraits of Austin musicians and their biographies. They look best in black and white I believe...(attached is one of those)~~~

Reflections on Photography.....

Hi all!

Another wonderful week!

I have been in a reflective mode this week....these two photos were taken in Tobago this past summer in a small fishing village on Castara Bay. I stayed in the village the entire time and spent big parts of my day walking the beach.

The boats they use to fish are very primitive with nets and oars. They are so rustic that they are beautiful. "Survival" and "Blessed" were hand painted on the sides of two boats in particular. They caught my eye. They summed up life for me while walking the beach. Life is all about Survival-- but how much do we really need in order to Survive vs. how much we think we need? Surviving in Lakeway, Texas is a whole different thing than surviving in a small fishing village. I am sure that the boat with Blessed on it is how the fisherman feels every time he is able to get up in the morning and go out on the bay and throw his nets out in order to survive.

Surviving in Lakeway, Texas is being able to afford the price at the gas station and feeling Blessed is not choking to death when you pay~~~~

So Austin....

Hi all! These birds are so Austin....loud and peculiar.

Grackles....they are called.

I have no idea why they are always looking up at the sky. Maybe they love the Texas sunshine...or they have spotted something the human eye cannot see....I find myself looking up when I see them looking upwhile running the loop at Townlake...the only thing I can see are those beautiful condiminiums that are also projecting upwards. I did a little research and last year at about this time there were many found dead downtown Austin. We all know that Austinites are treehuggers(I don't necessarily hug trees) but I have a very kind heart. I remember when it happened because there were also lots of dead pigeons near the foot bridge where I run~~~ I felt bad for those birds....awhile back a pigeon had flown into the side of the supports to one of the bridges I run under down at Townlake and it had broken it's neck....it was struggling in the water so a bike rider and I fished it out of the water and we helped it by putting it out of it's misery. Ok ... so give me a tree in trouble and I would probably hug it too...Anyhow, that is my photo of the week...sorry I missed last week:)

What a Catch!

Hi Everyone! These are two of the five fish I caught one evening in Castara Bay inTobego. We threw the fishing line out and held it with our bare hands until there was a nibble and then pulled them in by yanking the line hand over hand...of course as Murphy would have it my line would end up in a tangled mess on the bottom of the boat after each catch.(you should see me fly a kite and use a garden hose...same kind of tangling goes on) It was a blast though ! I was out on a sunset boat tripto take pictures and never did take any of the sunset. I was too involved in fishing.The previous day, in the same waters, I literally held a stingray(yes,it was right after Steve Irwin's untimely death)...there was a family of three in the water that swam with us. What a thrill! They wouldswim under you and you could see their eyes looking at you and stroke their backs. Rainforest Journey in Tobago

Hi Everyone!I hope all is well with everyone! Things here are hopping in thephoto world....This is image is of a man named "Levi" that I befriended in Tobago inJune. He was walking a very stubborn donkey up a steep hill. Westarted talking and he told me about his new business giving donkeyrides up into the rainforest in Tobago. Sounded very interesting to meso I said OK!(Come to find out I was his first customer)...The next day we were on our way~~ myself and a young couple fromPoland. I never laughed so much. The donkeys were kicking everythingin sight especially poor Levi. He had the matriach of the bunch andshe was literally feeling her oats. He was using her as a lead onfoot and she wailed on him with those hind legs and some good kicks.All the donkeys were ornery..mine included. She even went afterLevi's pet dog. The dog was merely relaxing soaking in the sun andthe donkey reached over and took a bite out of him!The woman from Poland kept ending up in the brush with one stubbornanimal under her...I was told by a few of the villagers that "Levi" was anherbalist...hmm interesting I thought...I will learn about the floraand fauna...a bonus.Well, we reached the top of the mountain and got off the donkeys andbefore I could turn around Levi was over yonder smoking one of thebiggest "joints" OR"doobies"...I guess that is the proper term becauseit looked like something Cheech and Chong would have enjoyed... Hishead was completely surrounded by smoke... Ichuckled...thinking....hmmm he sure is a herbalist.All in all it was a wonderful trip up the mountainside and anincredible experience. The vistas were breathtaking:)The next day there were helicopters flying over the rainforest and Iasked the Captain of the boat I was fishing on that day if they wereLife Flight helicopters...he said no...."They are looking for herbs!"I thought REEALLY?!A very herb conscious island indeed....

Training for Good Samaritan Ministry

Hey all!

This is a photograph of the Good Samaritan Ministry group that I will be photographing while in Northern Vietnam on medical mission in July of 2008. We met in California for an intense workshop to get us all trained in all aspects of the mission. It was a wonderful weekend of fellowship, worship and lots of learning. I am so excited and feel very fortunate. I am going on a mission to Northern Vietnam. I am going to be their official photographer and also help out in other areas too! This is an opportunity of a lifetime! I have had a constant pull towards this type of work my entire life and it is happening!

The name of the organization is Global Samaritan Medical Ministry and their website is www.gsmedicalministry.org 5,000 people will be treated in a 10 day period over a time span of two weeks. Dr. Vien Doan heads up the mission and this will be the 9th year it will take place.

In January I will be attending a workshop in California to prepare. The trip will take place in July of 2008.

I will be there to capture images of the Vietnamese people and the missionaries.

Life is good and I feel very blessed!

Exciting Photography Shoot

Hey all!

I just finished photographing Ryan T Briggs and the Redneck Hippies out in Wimberley. It was great fun! We traveled to two locations and took lots of pictures. I love photography...can ya tell? Received My Steel Pan Drum recently from Tobago

Hey all!

This is me, believe or not, playing the steel pan drum in Taboago, West Indies. Yes! I took a lesson and successfully played Ave' Maria! I then continued on and bought a drum because I love they way they sound(maybe I was a little to caught up in the moment?). Someday there will be invites in the mail to a Carribbean party at my house! The steel pan drums orginated out of Tobago and after looking them up on Amazon.com in the little internet cafe there, I found I could have one shipped through Amazon and avoid duty and having to lug it through the airports. Maybe I will hit the Austin scene with my one woman band someday;)
